Starcraft 2 7/27
Anyone planning on purchasing this? I am hoping to buy it at release, or within the month after. Hoping to find some people to do some of the multi-player stuff with. ;)
I was able to do some of the beta for the multi-player, ladder matches, and some of the cooperative vs. AI stuff. Probably played about 200ish matches or so. SC2, for me, played very similar to SC1. Gameplay, and gameplay mechanics held true to what SC was originally. The graphics and terrain were where I noticed the largest changes. The maps that I got to play on were superb. Terrain plays a huge factor in a lot of the maps. The have the same 3 races, (protoss, zerg, and terran), and towards the end of beta it seemed that they had them pretty well balanced. There are a lot of new units and structures for each race, there are also a lot of old units and structures that have just been revamped. The ladder system they have implemented seemed to do very well with their match making system. They have 1vs1, 2vs2, 3vs3, and 4vs4 ladders. And I believe that they have 5 different ladders you can play in, bronze, silver, gold, platinum, and diamond. I tended to hover around in the silver/gold brackets, and I thought I was good, curious to see the intensity of the higher brackets. There was no single player/storyline content available for the beta I was in, so cannot comment how that all went. Hollar at me in WoW or pop on a reply on this post if would be interested in some SC2 ladder domination. ;)

I pre-ordered since I had credit to spend. Will be interested in doing anything. However I'm out of town 22nd - 30th so I can't really do anything until after.

I've pre-ordered it and I even played the beta a bit.
It is pretty nice. I'm not into it as much as I was into the original, but then again, I've never been into a game more than that. Oh, except maybe civ.

I couldn't bring myself to get this one. Maybe someday when I have money to burn. I got in on the Beta when they did their last weekend beta event... it just seemed like Starcraft 2010 more than Starcraft 2. Everything is the same, with just updated graphics. 12 years and this is what they came up with... not impressed.
Don't get me wrong, everyone knows if you get something right, don't mess with it... which I do believe is true for Starcraft... I mean it still gets played heavily to this day. I was just expecting a new game.

Sorry to hear it Stiv, hope things are better now.
I'm still sort of on the fence about getting this. If anybody has any feedback on the single player campaigns once they get some playing time in, please share. Or is everybody skipping the single player stuff and going right into the competition ladder mode? :P

I hope the single player campaigns are as good as the original. Nothing like watching a clip of a Protoss capital ship flying into a Zerg hive to get the blood flowing. Watching the clips were as exciting as playing the game. I just couldn't wait to see how the story evolved.

Thanks Jasp. I've played about 8 of the single player missions so far and they are a blast. Unlike the first game the missions do not fallow a linear progression, rather you are able to choose from a few different missions at a time. Missions are usually not just kill the enemy base, but rather have a variety of different objectives and bonus objectives. One of the most fun I've played so far was having to destroy cargo trains before they made it from one end of the map from another. There was also another really neat one where you control a giant laser, trying to break through several walls to a Protoss relic. You also got to use the laser as a weapon to destroy any protoss invading your base. Also you get money and skill points to customize your units. So far I'd say if you have any interest in RTS games this is worth getting. I am having a great time with it thus far.

Single player campaign is better than the original. I am very impressed. And to me the whole campaign is very reminiscent of Firefly. Just substitute the Zerg for Reavers.

Being true to SC1 is really what they should do. So many RTS games lose it when they try to change too much. C&C1 was a perfect game. However anything past C&C2 sucked monkey balls. (Generals was good, but that's really the only exception.)
Looking forward to it. I have it sitting at my house waiting for me when I get back tomorrow. |

I picked it up at lunch time. I think Falk's Firefly comment was the final deciding factor. :P
